Newcastle Astronomical Society inc.

Founded by Dr Colin Keay 1993

"In1993 I founded a completely new Newcastle Astronomical Society with a constitutional requirement to emphasise astronomical education. For this reason the University of Newcastle granted permission for meetings to be held at the University, to this day. At the founding meeting in August 1993 nearly 200 people attended in lecture theatre E01 (between Physics and Geology) revealing a strong public interest. Attendance stabilised at 50-60 but is now showing signs of an increase to 70-80. As long as attractive programs are offered, the public will continue to support the new N.A.S.
Long may it prosper, educate and entertain."

Dr Colin Keay.
