Kincumber Astronomy
Viewing
NAS were invited by Central Coast
Councillor Phil Wood to hold a viewing for their annual Spring
festival on Saturday 26th September 2009 with about
80 guests. This year the Green Point Christian College also
attended.
Thank you to
all for a great night! Students who attended from Green Point
really appreciated the information that you shared through the
telescopes and also the nocturnal walk. Students were inspired
and commented on the new wonders they saw in the night sky!
Thank you to all concerned as considerable effort was involved
in driving, setting up and providing refreshments etc.

Hi Lydia,
Thanks you! We really appreciate you guys making the trip down
with all
the gear. Looks like you got it perfect - picking a window
between the
morning dust storm and the evening rain! Unfortunately I didn't
manage
to get to do much viewing myself but I hope to make it to one of
your
upcoming viewing nights soon.
Cheers,
Phil Wood

Eight members, Chris Bond, George Barnes,
Dave Roberts, Lydia Macokatic,
Scott Alder, Richard Clark, David Hough, Alan Meehan, attended.
Members set up their telescopes immediately. The NAS 12” Lightbridge dobsonian
telescope was manned by Scott Alder. Chris
Bond had a 10"newtonian telescope on an equatorial mount.
Richard Clark brought along his 5" Catadioptric
telescope. David Hough with his Celestron telescope and George
Barnes.
We were given a great welcome by Phil and
Mark and enjoyed a delicious barbeque meal, salad and drinks.
Visitors started to arrive soon after, then
members attended to the audience showing them amazing views of
Jupiter and it's moons also some faint nebulae was viewed as
well as the Jewel Box and globular cluster Omega Centauri, Scott
was given a loud speaker to conduct a tour of the night sky.
then visitors were taken to a night spotting tour afterwards
coming back for more viewing.
The Sothern Cross was clearly visible from
the site although there was some light smokey dust haze.
A number of satellites were visible
as spotted on the night.
The weather was perfect, a cold night with
little breeze and not much moisture in the air which made a
great night for viewing.
