The 24” telescope…..
By Ed. Roca.
This telescope is a ‘Nasmyth’
telescope. The design comprises of a three mirror system, the
Primary, Secondary and Tertiary.
This design allows me to
bring the focuser back down the telescope doing away with climbing
up ladders to reach the eyepiece as on conventional Newtonians.
The
light rays reflect of the three mirrors before reaching the eyepiece
and the telescope was a tricky project to do because of the
construction needed for the three mirrors. I used a double truss
system which enabled me to mount the focuser between the trusses and
with the already made parts we have today for ATMers (truss
connectors) this made the job a lot easier.
This
telescope will also have the ArgoNavis and ServoCat. I have some
experience using this combination with my previous project the 18”
telescope and it is a joy to use.
I might even be able to do
some imaging with the 24” with some help from the NAS members. There
are so many things that I did to this telescope to many to mention
here but you can find the whole construction faze at the IceInSpace
website in the DYI section on the forums.

If you have any
questions on ATMing I would be happy to help.
